How can instructors address a diversified classroom?
To address these changes, instructors can develop cultural competence,
which is the “ability to effectively teach students from different
cultures”. Some professionals view cultural competence as a moral and
ethical responsibility to create a welcoming environment for student
success. An instructor who is able to motivate and challenge diverse
students will improve student outcomes and improve the educational
system. To develop cultural competence, you must understand your culture
and the culture of your students, develop an awareness and acceptance
for differences; and develop the ability to adapt skills to changing
cultural needs and demands.
