America as a pluralistic society

In the past, America was viewed as a "melting pot". This perception arose from the desire of creating a new American culture from all different races and ethnicities within the United States. With time, this perception became a myth. America never assimilated into a single culture. A more current view of America is America as an “orchestra”.  In an orchestra, each individual, compared to an instrument, retains his/ her individuality and contributes in a distinct way towards a common goal. This perception reflects the foundation of pluralism and America as a pluralistic society.
