- sociocultural consciousness- the ability to understand one's own way of acting, thinking and being influenced by one's race, ethnicity, social class and language;
- an affirming attitude toward students from culturally diverse backgrounds;
- commitment and skills to act as agents of change;
- constructivist views of learning;
- learning about students; and
- culturally responsive teaching strategies.
