Stereotypes


How can you tell if something that is said or believed is a stereotype? It is a stereotype if it assigns assumptions or characteristics to an individual based solely on group membership, such as race, gender, religion, age, culture and etc. Here are a few examples of stereotypes:
  • Kenya didn't get his homework finished because all Black people are lazy.
  • Tom did not select anyone of color to be on his team because he is White and they are all racist.
  • I would not work for Anthony. He is Italian and they are all in the Mob.
  • I wouldn't be in a group with Sean. He will be drunk because all Irishman are drunks.
  • All southerners are rednecks and dim-witted.
  • Of course, Lee aced that exam. All Asians are smart at math and science.
  • All jocks are stupid.
  • All blondes are air heads.
  • Men do not cry or show their emotions.
  • All females are not smart at science or math.
  • All women with really short hair are dykes.
  • Jose doesn't want to get caught by the cops. All Hispanics are illegal immigrants.
  • All Jews are tight with their money.
  • All Muslims are terrorists.
  • All old people are awful drivers.
