Native Americans
In the 2000 census, there were 2.5 million Native Americans in the
United States, which constitutes 0.9% of the population. Native
Americans include American Indian and Alaska Native. The median
household income was $31,799, and 26% were living in poverty. Only 50%
of Native American students graduate from high school. Additionally,
only 17% of Native American high school students participate in higher
education and only 1 in 5 completes the first year of college.
