Asian Americans
Asian Americans have been referred to as the "model minority" group in
the media. The 2000 Census reported 10.2 million (3.6% of the
population) Asian Americans living in the United States. The Asian
American population doubled between 1990 and 2005 to 14.4 million people
with the majority coming from Philippines, India, China, Vietnam and
Korea. Individuals who identify themselves as Asian Americans include
individuals from the Asian and Pacific Islander category, which include
Asian Indian, Chinese, Filipino, Korean, Japanese, Vietnamese, Hawaii,
Guam and Samoa.
Asian Americans are the most highly, diversified ethnic group in the United States in physical, language and cultural differences. For example, a person from China has different physical traits and cultural values than someone from India. There is much conflict between the diverse groups of Asian Americans.
